Five difficult vocabulary words defined and used in an example sentence:

1. Margins :  a bare minimum below which or an extreme limit beyond which something becomes impossible or is no longer desirable.
Example of sentence : I am on the margin of a burnout.
2. Survey : examine and record the area and features to construct a map, a plan or a description
Example of sentence : Women in my neighborhood passed an environmental survey to help a local company.
3. Retention: the act of retaining or the state of being retained.
Example of sentence : This guy has no memory; he has a problem of information retention.
4. Outcome : something that follows as a result or consequence.
Example of sentence :  The outcome of this exercise was very positive.
5. Range : a set of different things of the same general type
Example of sentence : This supermarket offers a wide range of fruits and vegetables.

Paraphrasing Exercise 
Based on article Tens of thousands of students in alternative education.

1. Many are in the margins, unengaged in traditional classroom settings and overwhelmed by their one-size-fits-all approach to teaching and testing.
Paraphrase: Many student feel rejected, detached and stressed by the traditional education system which imposes everyone a single way of learning.

2. About 60% of programs surveyed targeted a broad range of young people, while about 40% had a more specialized purpose.
Paraphrase: More than half of the programs examined were general and less than half were specialized.

3. This is time consuming, but real self-evaluation, not just anecdotal evidence, is vital for being able to fine tune and improve a program.

Paraphrase: In-depth analysis, although it takes time, is essential to adjust and make improvements to the programs.
